The Fall ‘It’ look. Yes?

Have y’all heard the latest? The new fashion trend for this fall is funky, handknit unmatching socks! Totally chic. Totally. { At least they’re color-coordinated? }

‘Nother single sock can be added to the stack. I’m on my last two singles for my little Project Spectrum Elements project, which I’ve been working on for the past 6 months. I have two singlets left: one to represent BLACK + one to represent BLUE, both of which are on the needles. Project Spectrum concludes at the end of the month, and then… and THEN, friends, it will be all about knitting mates to each and every single sock. I have no idea what sort of system I’ll use to determine the order I knit mates. Maybe I’ll take suggestions? {Do you have any?} Maybe I’ll go in the order of most favorited on Ravelry. Maybe it’ll be random. Who can say? Socktober is my oyster . . .

I don’t like purple (because it reminds me of my cousin, who’s mean) but these are SO pretty!!

I have a Single Socktober Proposal for you, dear. Want to switch unloved single socks? I’ll knit one for you, you knit one for me? I’m specifically thinking of one sock in my stash that will never have a mate (well, odds aren’t good for any of them but ESPECIALLY this one).

  2. Heather Says:

Why knit mates when you have so clearly identified the new look for fall??

  3. Julia Says:

Pretty! I think this whole purple thing might be growing on me….

    They are very pretty, Megan!

If it was me, I’d work on the one I was most dying to wear. But then again, with so many incredibly beautiful socks to choose from, that might be a tough call. Maybe stick them all in a bag, and pull out the “winner” sock to get a mate. A little surprise for you each time.

Pretty socks! I used to wear unmatched socks all the time as a kid.

I like Nicole’s “stick them all in a bag” idea for choosing which sock gets its mate knit next.

I love your new site and the shop. You really seem to have found your internet voice. Congratulations!

They are so lovely, both of them. I love all of your singles, but the Watery Nutkins sock is my favourite. Oh you’ll have a fun Socktober!

I really like the look of “sort of mates”.
But what the heck … you could still do that if you knit all the mates … you’d just have two pair of “sort of mates” instead of one.
I like the idea of going back and completing the oldest first; but then there are so many to pick from!
    Have a productive Socktober.

    XOXOX

I recommend the following method for determining the order of mate knitting: Collect all the yarns that might be involved. If they are in skeins, set up a basket across the room and try to toss them in. Whichever land in the basket go to further elimination rounds until only one has landed in the basket, and that’s the sock you knit first. If you’ve already wound up the yarn balls, secure each with a rubber band. Place a pair of needles on a clean floor, and roll the balls bocce-style toward the needles. Whichever comes closest is the winner. Of course, if you start praying a particular ball doesn’t win, you can try to knock it farther off with the next ball.

[...] me out.  And why?  All because they don’t have a mate?  Pfft.  I’m going to take a chapter from Megan’s book (loove her adorable knitting project pouches, btw) from now on.  If they [...]
